Since the late 19th century, the complex of A Mourela (As Pontes de García Rodríguez, A Coruña), with its two lithic circles, became one of the most emblematic elements of the Megalithic phenomenon in Galicia. However, the destruction of the stone enclosures, shortly after they were publicized by F. Maciñeira, led to these constructions falling into almost complete oblivion for a century.
At the beginning of the 21st century, the threat posed by the route of a highway caused the Great Circle to awaken from its century-long slumber, leading to its comprehensive excavation and meticulous interdisciplinary research, which resulted in a complete shift in its age-old Megalithic classification.
