The Red Cross in Compostela. History of the Santiago assembly

Thus begins the untold story of the benevolent institution in our city, which, nevertheless, includes some national milestones. The first of these was the inauguration of a sanatorium three months after its foundation. Years later, a nursing school and a fire department would follow, among many other unique initiatives, until reaching the 125 years of service that are now being celebrated.

Personalities such as Barcia Caballero, Ángel and Ramón Baltar, Puente Castro, Gil Casares, Fernández Albor, Chocha Bescansa, and Carro Otero have been part of the Santiago Red Cross. Many other volunteers have quietly dedicated their time and effort to helping others.
